Trial Information

BMT CTN 0301: Fludarabine-based Conditioning for Allogeneic Marrow Transplantation From HLA-compatible Unrelated Donors in Severe Aplastic Anemia

You have/your child has been asked to participate in this research study because you have/your child has Severe Aplastic Anemia (SAA).  An allogeneic (from a donor) bone marrow transplant can be used to treat SAA.  You do/your child does not have a matched related donor and will need to receive cells from a matched, unrelated donor (not a blood relative).  The purpose of this study is to see how much the dose of cyclophosphamide (a medication used to reduce the number of diseased cells and lower the immune system to the body to accept donor marrow cells) can be lowered when fludarabine is added to the pre-transplant medications in order to lower the side effects while still allowing the donor marrow cells to replace the diseased marrow cells.  Your/your child’s participation in this study is expected to last approximately 3 to 6 months for transplant treatment and indefinitely for follow-up.
