Removal of Protein Bound Uremic Toxins by Modified Plasma Separation and Adsorption Combined With Hemodialysis

Measurements of uremic protein bound substances before and after mFPSA and a preceding routine hemodialysis session.

Phase N/A

Serum NGAL Levels in Hemodialysis (HD) Patients; Relation to Iron Status HD and Intravenous (IV) Iron Administration

Serum and urine levels of the siderophore binding protein neutrophil gelatinase associated lipocalin (NGAL) are increased in a number of renal diseases, but has not been evaluated yet in dialysis patients. Since NGAL is suggested to be related to inflammatory processes and iron homeostasis, which are a major problem in ...

Phase N/A

A Novel Catheter Lock Solution for Treatment of Tunneled Hemodialysis Catheter-Associated Bacteremia

The primary objective is to investigate the ability of systemic intravenous antibiotic plus antibiotic/anti-biofilm (i.e. N-acetylcysteine) lock catheter technique in eradicating uncomplicated catheter associated bacteremia and salvaging the infected vascular catheter. Secondary objectives include duration to clearance of bacteremia, future recurrence of bacteremia, need for catheter removal and death.

Safety Profiles of Liver Biopsy in Hemodialysis Patients With Chronic Viral Hepatitis Pre-treated With Vasopressin

Chronic viral hepatitis is common in dialysis patients, with the reported prevalence and annual incidence of 3-80% and 2.9%, respectively. Currently, percutaneous liver biopsy (PLB) remains the gold standard for grading necroinflammation and staging fibrosis in patients with liver diseases. In addition, liver histology can help clinicians determine the eligibility ...

OPG and RANKL Plasma Level After Administration of Unfractionated Heparin (UFH) and Low-Molecular-Weight Heparin (LMWH) in Hemodialysis

It's well known that treatment with heparin can lead to a reduction in bone density and the development of osteoporosis [ 1 ]. Until now, it's not clear the mechanism by which heparin produces this side effect, but several studies in animals [ 2,3] and in humans [ 4 ] ...

High Flux Hemodialysis Thrice Versus Once

This study will be conducted in the HD center at NTUH. Patients undergoing chronic HD for at least 6 months will be evaluated for eligibility. Patients with previous adverse reactions to FX series dialyzer will not be included in this study. Detailed demographic physical characteristics of the participants will be ...

Phase

Effect of Lowering the Dialysate Sodium on Blood Pressure in Hemodialysis Patients

Patients currently receiving hemodialysis will be randomized to receive 1 of 3 dialysate sodium prescriptions. The effects on blood pressure, interdialytic weight gain, thirst, and intradialytic symptoms will be assessed.

Phase

Peritoneal Dialysis Versus Haemodialysis

Study in order to quantify toxin removal during dialysis

Phase N/A

U Clip Study - Study to Compare U Clip Anastomosis With Conventional Continuous Prolene Anastomosis

Method. A prospective, randomised, blinded study to compare continuous prolene anastomosis with interrupted U clip anastomosis in creation of autologous AV fistula. Recruitement. Patients will be referred by the nephrologists to the vascular surgeons for assessment prior to creation of an AV fistula in the usual way. Current unit guidelines ...

Effect of Different Hemodialysis Modality on Adiponectin Vascular Function and Clinical Prognosis

Adiponectin, a cytokine with anti-inflammatory properties that is secreted from adipose tissue, is associated with insulin resistance (Horm Metab Res 34:469-474, 2002). The plasma adiponectin level has been reported to be decreased in some insulin-resistant states, such as obesity and type 2 diabetes (Biochem Biophys Res Commun 257:79-83, 1999), and ...
