A Washington University hearing study participants.

Detailed Study Description

The purpose of this research study is to examine differences in speech understanding in background noise between different settings in a hearing aid and an assistive listening device. Participants without hearing loss will have 1 study visit (45 minutes). Participants with hearing loss will have 3 study visits (60 to 90 minutes each) over 3 weeks. All participants will complete an otoscopy exam. There will also testing in a sound-treated booth. Participants with hearing loss will be asked to wear hearing aids during the study, and may be compensated or receive discounted hearing aids upon completion. Risks and benefits will be discussed as part of the informed consent process (IRB # 201701086).
