The Chinese Familial Alzheimer's Network


Brief description of study

  1. The Chinese Familial Alzheimer's Network (CFAN) is a multi-center observational and longitudinal study about familial Alzheimer's disease (FAD) across China.
  2. CFAN includes not only autosomal dominant Alzheimer's disease (ADAD) with known mutations Presenilin 1 (PSEN1), Presenilin 2 (PSEN2) and Amyloid Precursor Protein (APP), but also other forms of FAD with unknown mutations.
  3. CFAN uses standard and consistent assessment protocols to obtain clinical, cognitive, genetic, neuroimaging and biospecimen data.
  4. The purpose of CFAN is to explore new mutations, biomarkers, mechanisms, and progression for Alzheimer's disease in Chinese.

Detailed Study Description

  1. Set up a multi-center, national-wide FAD research network and electronic database platform in China, including ADAD cohort of the known mutations PSEN1, PSEN2 and APP (mutation carriers and noncarriers; presymptomatic and symptomatic) and unknown mutation cohort.
  2. Clarify the genetic characteristic of familial Alzheimer's disease, and find risk and protective genes in Chinese FAD pedigree.
  3. Create a genetic consultation model to provide better education and intervention for Chinese FAD families.
  4. Collect clinical data, neuropsychology, neuroimaging and biomarker (including blood, cerebral spinal fluid, saliva and urine) of Chinese FAD pedigree.
