Volunteers Needed for a Study on the Cellular Effects of Massage on Human Skeletal Muscle

Brief description of study

Researchers at the University of Kentucky are seeking individuals to participate in a 14 day long study to determine the cellular effects of massage on healthy and shrinking skeletal muscle tissue. Depending on which group you are randomized into, this could involve 8 visits to campus, 4 blood draws, 3 thigh muscle biopsies, ingestion of heavy water for 14 days, 4 massages, and utilizing a knee immobilizer and crutches for 7 days.

You may be eligible to participate if you:
-Are 18-30 years old;
-Have a BMI of ≤ 27;
-Have not had previous lower extremity surgery; and
-Do not currently have a lower extremity injury.

You will be compensated up to $375 for your time.
