Healthy Eating and Active Living Taught at Home (HEALTH).

Detailed Study Description

Washington University is seeking volunteers for a research study to look at two Parents as Teachers (PAT) curriculums, the standard curriculum or the standard plus additional information on how families can live healthy and active lives while reaching a healthier weight. This study lasts 2 years. There will be 3 outpatient visits at Washington University and 20 – 36 home visits. Volunteer feedback regarding the PAT curriculum may lead to changes in future curriculum. Up to $150 is provided for time and effort (gift cards). Risks will be discussed as part of the informed consent process.

Patient Inclusion Criteria:

  • Female, 18 – 45 years old, with Body Mass Index (BMI) 30 – 39.9
  • Have a child age 2 – 4 with a BMI greater than 85th percentile

Patient Exclusion Criteria:

  • Diabetes
  • Heart disease
  • Eating disorder
